Saw an excited mum-to-be the other day who, when asked how she was answered: “Just growing a human inside me.”

How very true, for she is pregnant after all. But have you ever really stopped to think about that concept – growing a human inside you?

We hear on the news and read in newspapers and magazines about celebrities who have struggled to conceive and undertaken IVF. We read how joyful they feel at finally becoming parents and feel happy for them. But we rarely hear or read about how we can protect our fertility, improve it if needed, in order to conceive and birth a healthy baby.

Indeed, it is much more common to hear about a new pill that is said to help an IVF embryo embed into the uterus. Perhaps it is an occupational hazard, but my thoughts always revert to “why” do we need more drugs?

We don’t want to hear it

In a recent documentary about improving our health with a view to living longer, healthier lives, the findings related to diet and lifestyle factors. Even these “experts” stressed that our genes at best only account for 20% of our health outcomes with lifestyle playing the biggest role.

So it seems to always boil down to the same few things:

eat a healthy diet drink purified water get adequate rest/sleep remove toxins from your environment don’t smoke limit alcohol and caffeine undertake daily moderate exercise.

I know, not what you wanted to read. If I said there’s a new pill that will help you regulate weight, have heaps of energy, feel fabulous and not need to change a thing, would you be interested? Be honest!

It has become ingrained in our modern lifestyle to look for a quick fix – even after we have spent many years making unwise decisions, eating low nutrient ‘foods’, perhaps smoking (or worse, vaping), having daily alcohol because “it helps you relax”, and ……. then wonder why we can’t fall pregnant.

You haven’t been doing these things to intentionally jeopardise your dreams of one day being a parent. You’ve just done what most other people do. BUT, now you know better and it’s never too late to eat a healthy diet and support your health (and fertility).

I love the saying “Nothing changes if nothing changes” (can’t remember who said that) but it is so true. Alternately, you could say “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result” (author unknown).

So, if you think you may like to be a parent one day or if you have decided now’s the time, please get a copy of my book so that you can better understand “why” what you do is so important and directly affects your dream of having a (healthy) baby.
