For those readers who have been following my blogs and those who have read my book, you will be aware of the importance of eating clean food. So what IS clean food? Here’s an example.
I decided to make some chocolate crackles – you know, those crunchy chocolatey snacks we used to make and sell at school fetes. So, off to the supermarket to get some Rice Bubbles. That was until I read the ingredients label!!
Apart from the puffed rice, the next ingredients were sugar, salt, sugar (masked as barley malt extract), then iron and zinc as oxides (nooooo), followed by synthetic vitamins. As you can imagine, I quickly replaced the packet. Just to be sure, I checked an alternate brand and this had glucose as well as the other sugars!
Compare those ingredients lists with what I bought at the local farmers’ market this morning:
Millet puffs contained puffed millet Buckwheat puffs contained puffed buckwheat Rice puffs contained puffed rice.
Fresh, whole foods not only provide essential nutrients that nourish and communicate with your cells, these foods are free from added highly processed sugars and salt. Also, the vitamins contained in whole foods are natural which means your body can absorb and utilise them, as opposed to synthetic additives which are foreign to our body. Not to mention that, being organic, they have not been sprayed with glyphosate.
More on glyphosate and associated health hazards, insight into processed foods, and chemicals used on commercial crops.
Remember, that if you are trying to conceive, are pregnant and/or breastfeeding, everything you put inside your body will directly affect the development and health of your baby.
