8-month old with Stage 4 Cancer
Since my book was published I have been asked about the choice of title. Why did I choose to call the book “How to Have a Healthy Baby”? Well, the reason stems from over twenty years in clinical practice seeing first-hand the increase in sick babies and toddlers. The other concerning trend is the decline in fertility rates. So, the two themes are addressed in my book but the ultimate goal of any parent is to have a healthy baby.
Rarely does a week go by that we do not hear or read about a baby or toddler undergoing numerous or life-threatening surgeries. Or children suffering a rare condition which prevents them from doing what healthy children do. If you are not concerned about this very obvious trend, then perhaps you should be. Please allow me to reference a front page article of The Sunday Mail on July 20, 2025. This is a local newspaper in south-east Queensland and the article reported the struggles of an eight-month old girl diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
The article goes on to report the dangerous but lifechanging spinal surgery to remove the tumour which was pressing on the nerves preventing her from walking. Thankfully, the surgery was a success – at least until now.
What is always glaringly obvious in this and similar news reports is the absence of any question related to “why”? Why are babies and toddlers being diagnosed with advanced cancer? Cancer generally takes seven years from its beginnings to diagnosis but some children are less than 12 months old. There has to be a cause, or a combination of factors.
Considering that scientists are creating different types of cancer in laboratories (using animals) it is obvious they know how or what causes tumours. Therefore, they know how to prevent them.
I do not claim that if you follow the advice in my book you are guaranteed to have a healthy baby. However, you will be giving your child the very best chance at experiencing optimal health.
The birth of a child should be a time of joy. After all, you have created a new life. The flipside is having a sick child and all the trauma and stress this creates for the family.
