During the past 20+ years in clinical practice I have noticed a significant increase in children being more reactive, more overwhelmed, and more sensitive.
Such observations cannot be left alone – we need to ask ‘why?’
There are a multitude of possible answers to this –
· Have parenting methods changed?
· Is it related to screens?
· Is it due to over-stimulus?
· What about the foods they are eating?
If you said that it is all of the above and more, you would be right. A huge chunk of reasons all relate directly to environmental toxins. Without even going into the huge amounts of chemicals used in agriculture and animal husbandry, or in the food processing industry, we just need to walk outside.
The air they breathe contains particles that were never meant to enter a child’s lungs. Their food is made with ingredients that didn’t exist when we were young. Their water carries metals and chemicals that reach their system long before they can even speak. Their skin absorbs what we put on it through soaps, wipes, creams, plastics, and fabrics, which no one ever warned us about.
And all these chemicals are affecting our children from the moment they are conceived.
How are our children responding? It shows in their:
Behaviour Skin conditions, such as eczema Allergies, asthma Sensory reactions Sleep disturbances Difficulty concentrating
If you’ve ever felt confused about why your child reacts so strongly, struggles with sleep, moods, focus, or certain foods, you’re not imagining it. Their system is overloaded!
In my book I focus heavily on preparing your body before pregnancy [and this also included the man]. This preparatory phase focuses on insidious environmental chemicals – you’ll find it all in chapter 4 as well as self-assessment of your possible exposure and how to protect yourself.
One area of considerable concern that is gaining momentum is that of gender dysphoria. Is it real? Is it created by society, parents, teachers? I would respond to all of these with ‘partially, yes’, but it IS real.
When you consider that it is not only the physical baby that is growing in the womb, but also the entire central nervous system, hormones and related organs it may be easier to understand that the sex hormones are also strongly influenced before birth. Yes, there are the XX = female and XY = male chromosomes, but the mother’s body releases certain hormones at specific times throughout pregnancy which trigger the development of male/female traits.
Similar hormone releases also occur at intervals before adulthood. When we consider that many of the environmental toxins are endocrine (hormone) disrupters, it should come as no surprise that some children are confused.
So let’s focus first and foremost on prevention. You can get a copy of my book on Amazon in your country or some local outlets and libraries.
What can be done to help these children or prevent younger ones from facing gender dysphoria is something to be discussed with a qualified, trained health professional. And here I ask you to consider complementary medicine practitioners as well.
